Climate
Korea has four distinct seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. Summer can be so hot and humid that it’s difficult to breath. Winter lasts from December to mid-March. It can be bitterly cold during this time due to the influx of cold Siberian air. Heavy snow in the northern and eastern parts of Korea makes favourable skiing conditions.
Thankfully, spring and fall are sunny, mild and gorgeous. Temperatures range from 25 –35 degrees Celsius in summer and 0 - -15 degrees Celsius in winter. Monsoon season occurs from late June to late July. As you might expect it rains a lot but it’s still warm.
Mosquitoes are rife at this time so take precautions especially if you are in the countryside. Yellow sand dust, which originates in the Mongolian desert, known as hwangsa, occasionally invades Korea during early spring for a short period of time. The sand gets everywhere. You can even taste it in the air. It is a very odd phenomenon.
