Typical Offer

Any schools who are interested in hiring you will contact us with a general outline of the position they have available.  Your FCC rep will discuss the position with you in relation to industry standards.  The following is a typical example of a general outline of a typical offer.  The text written in italics are the types of comments your rep will make.

Most schools have students of varying ages. We also have some adult positions

Working hours a day: 6 hours
Most contracts are 6 hours per day, 30 hours per week

Working days a week: Mon - Friday
Schools generally do not open at the weekends

Payment: 2.0 million won
1.9-2.0 million won is standard for a first time teacher in Korea. This is over £1000 per month

Operating hours: 11:00-12noon. 3-8p.m (Mon~Fri)
Generally, the younger the kids are, the earlier the classes.

Overtime payment: 18,000 won per hour
The standard range for overtime pay is 15,000-20,000 won. The vast majority of schools offer 18,000 won. Most schools though have very little overtime.

Class size: 10 students
10-12 students maximum per class is standard.

Starting date: 1st of August, 2006

Type of housing: Single accommodation (fully-furnished)
Most housing these days in single studio apartments. Some are shared apartments. Accommodation is paid for by the school. Teachers are responsible for payment of utility bills.

Severance: Equal to 1month's salary
You will be paid an extra month’s wages on completion of the 12 month contract. This is a legal requirement.

Vacation: Paid 10 days + National holidays
10 days vacation is standard. There are 10-15 national holidays per year.

Health Insurance: 50%
50% of your health insurance premium is deducted from your monthly way. The other half is paid by the school.

Air fare: Provided
Airfare is usually paid for in advance by the school. In some cases though the school may ask you to pay for the flight and reimburse you on arrival.
