Work Experience
Position 1
Job title:
Editorial Assistant
Dates of employment:
May 2016 to Present
Summary of role:
I coordinate all editorial services for Troubador Publishing, her imprints and sister companies. For Troubador’s self-publishing imprint, Matador, I manage our freelance database for all copy edits, proof reads and manuscript assessments, and deal with customer queries and complaints; for The Book Guild, Troubador’s sister company, I complete all editorial commitments myself. This role, and its hefty responsibility, is something that I relish, and I have enjoyed the challenges it has brought me. Due to the nature of this role, excellent time-management and organisational skills are vital to ensure that the quality of work produced remains high.
Position 2
Job title:
Ebook Editorial and Marketing Assistant
Dates of employment:
July 2015 to May 2016
Summary of role:
In this role, my duties were to assist in the production and marketing of eBooks, the general day-to-day admin of the department, and also completing corrective edits for the editorial department. Marketing was my main focus in this role, and I became proficient in the use of Cision, NetGalley and other marketing databases, as well as crafting engaging and effective press releases for our marketed titles, for both electronic and printed books. I was also tasked with creating social media marketing campaigns for my authors, aiming and succeeding to get their ebooks noticed by readers and reviewers alike.
Position 3
Job title:
Student Teacher
Dates of employment:
January 2015 - March 2015
Summary of role:
This placement was part of a teaching module for my bachelor’s degree. I was required to observe, support and lead lessons, with a particular focus on post-16 students. I taught English Language and Literature primarily, but supported my link teachers in teaching additional learning students.
Supporting Information
Why do you want to teach overseas?:
I would like to teach overseas to expand upon my own experiences, both in a professional and personal capacity. I believe that working abroad will allow me to develop on my existing skills and enable me to strengthen them indefinitely. I also think that I have a lot to offer my host country. I believe that my background in both teaching and editorial will be invaluable to any school that wants to instill a firm grasp of the English language into their students.
Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:
I am a suitable candidate because I not only have some experience of teaching in a classroom environment, but I also have an incredible grasp on the English language thanks not only to my university education, but also my time spent working in an editorial department. Professional qualifications aside, I believe my personality is well adept at adapting to new environments, both good and bad, with ease. I am a passionate and driven individual who is not put off by a challenge. Thanks also to my many years working for a mental health charity, I believe I have a friendliness and sensitivity that would help me to connect with students and foster a positive learning environment for all.
