Work Experience

Position

Job title: English Teacher and Group Facilitator
Employer: Alava local government / Baker Street International
Date of employment: January 2020 – March 2020 (cut short due to COVID)
Summary of role:

My role involved designing and running workshops and language classes. These workshops were usually for 15 to 20 students, and could involve a variety of activities to stimulate the use of English between the students at the camp. I was also responsible for assisting other workshops, and working with colleagues to develop ideas and plans for other workshops and ideas, as well as helping with other leisure activities as well.

Position

Job title: Language Assistant
Employer: CAPS
Date of employment: January 2019 – June 2019
Summary of role:

As a language assistant in a school, my role primarily focused on helping students to practise their English, with a variety of activities to help them develop speaking, reading, listening and writing. Most of my lesson time was with the primary age kids, aged between 7 and 12 years old. I would mostly be working with small groups (usually 5 to 8 students), and coordinating my activities with their English teacher to best help them to develop their English skills. The activities and games I led would vary, but included reading activities, one-on-one conversation practise, listening and answering activities and writing practise.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I am very keen to explore the world and experience different cultures. Having lived in England for most of my life, with some time having been spent teaching in Spain, I am very interested in living in Asia as this would be such a big difference to living in Europe, and something I would find fascinating in terms of living and working in a very different culture and lifestyle. I greatly enjoyed my time working in Spain, and I am definitely keen to broaden my horizons by living outside Europe.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

With my previous TEFL roles, I believe my practical classroom experience and online learning makes me a good candidate as I will be prepared and I will know what to expect when it come to teaching. This experience will stand me in good stead, and I recognise the importance of building trust and a good working relationship with both colleagues and students. Furthermore, I am hard working and dedicated, and a good listener and valuable team member.
