Why do you want to teach overseas?:

TEFL 120 hours qualified teacher who is currently undertaking a History PGCE and is in a placement at local Secondary School, teaching students from a variety of different backgrounds from the ages of 11 to 18. I am now looking to bring my passion for teaching to an international level and immerse myself within the culture.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I am currently undertaking a History PGCE at the University of Hertfordshire and I am, at present, training at a local secondary school gaining experience and face-to face training in the classroom where I am teaching students from 11-18 years old. I am responsible for the planning and delivery of sixty-minute lessons according to the UK curriculum and developing the necessary materials needed, from worksheets to online quizzes. This experience gives me the opportunity to plan effectively and to think strategically how materials can be used to help students grasp new concepts and to further develop my time management skills. Furthermore, I am responsible for marking books and tests whilst also reporting back on progress to my Teacher Mentor. Additionally, I teach students from a variety of backgrounds and tailor my lessons to support EAL (English as an additional Language) students too which will stand me in good stead when teaching English to non-native speakers.

I have a 120-hour online TEFL qualification. To gain this qualification I had to complete five modules, which has helped to develop my teaching in how to specifically teach English as a foreign language, as I gained experience from planning lessons, designing materials and how to deliver lessons to large and small groups and to different age ranges, from infants to adults. All in all, I can bring these skills to the classroom in Korea.

Whilst studying, I volunteered at a local museum which entailed Coordinating and running school workshops for both Primary and Secondary students, this experience has given me the opportunity to work with children from a variety of ages and to, once again, gain experience in engaging pupils through learning.

In this position as a Private Academy Teacher, I would seek to use my skills and experience to support students to reach their highest potential. I could use my research skills to develop effective materials for students and my written and verbal communication skills to convey messages in a simple way.

My postgraduate degree demonstrates my commitment to teaching, of which, I feel, good English language skills play a key role. Lastly, I know this would be a role in which I would flourish and make a significant contribution.
