Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

In various aspects of my life so far I have found teaching others to be a deeply fulfilling and enlightening experience. Through helping a friend learn to swim, volunteering my lunchtimes as part of a reading buddies scheme, and acting as a mentor to work experience students, I have learnt that I have both a love and aptitude for teaching. I enjoyed travelling around Europe after completing my A-levels, but I would love to work abroad in order to become fully engrossed in a different community and culture. Finally, I would love to meet new people and make a difference in the lives of young people abroad.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I am a deeply driven individual and have always pursued challenges that push me out of my comfort zone. In my 2nd year of university, I ran and was elected as captain of my rowing team, after having only one year’s experience of the sport. This experience in leadership tested my ability to manage a team of over 30 students, organise daily training sessions, and teach a technical sport, all alongside full-time study.

I am also very patient and empathetic. When I was taking part in a “reading buddies” scheme, I was working with a young learner who had difficulties with maintaining attention. After talking with his teacher, I tailored the lessons to his interests by letting him bring in his books from home and used stickers to support good behaviour.
