Work Experience

Position

Job title: Teaching Assistant
Employer: St Paulinus Catholic Primary School
Date of employment: July 2014 and July 2015
Summary of role:

I was to assist the teacher of the class with typical daily duties. Preparation for lessons was an important role of the job. However, as the teaching assistant my main role was to provide help to the children within the classroom. I would help the children with any problems they would have regarding their work and help them understand what was asked of them a little bit better.

Position

Job title: Football Coach
Employer: Striker Tots
Date of employment: Late July – August 2015 and 2016
Summary of role:

My role within this volunteered position was to provide assistance to the main football coach by taking a small group of children aside and developing their football skills throughout several weeks of the summers of 2015 and 2016. I was challenged with creating activities that would cater to each of the children’s needs as some were of a different ability to the rest. During this role it was important to make sure the children were kept safe at all times and any risk of injury was kept to an absolute minimum as their parents would not be present to help them.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

Teaching in Korea will be a fantastic opportunity for myself to experience teaching overseas for the first time. Immersing myself in a new culture is extremely exciting for me. Being able to develop my teaching skills, learn a new language and experience a brand new way of life, which differs drastically from my western lifestyle, will prove to be an invaluable year of my life.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

My experience of teaching in primary schools and football coaching at Striker Tots show that I possess qualities that are required to teach abroad. Patience and a willingness to learn are just a couple of these qualities. My patience will allow me to interact with the students and to fully understand either what they are finding easy about learning English or more importantly what aspects of the language they seem to struggling with.
My ambition for the future is to teach English in primary schools, whether that is in the UK or overseas is something to be decided at a later date.
As a recent graduate, I have experienced many different methods of learning. My aim is to take this experience with me into the classroom to make my lessons engaging for the students, using the resources available to me I aim to make the lessons both enjoyable and informative for the students.
