Work Experience

Position

Job title: IU2U Teacher Assistant
Employer: Indiana University Office of Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education
Date of employment: January 2019 – May 2019
Summary of role:

This role allows me to help design the activities in a class that prepares Indiana University undergraduates for leadership responsibilities for their trip to China, India, and Korea as a part of the “IU2U” program. My work helps undergraduate student leaders better prepare incoming students from the three countries to have an easier time when entering the United States, providing them with the ability to better navigate a university in the United States. Activities I plan include team-building, parent conversation scenarios, and cultural knowledge-building.

Position

Job title: Assistant Building Manager
Employer: Indiana Memorial Union
Date of employment: November 2016 – Present
Summary of role:

This role asks me to oversee an over 46,000 square meter building on campus. I act as security and key master and respond to the various needs of different departments in the building, such as catering, maintenance, and custodial staff. As a Building Manager, I must also maintain positive contact with people visiting the building, always being able to assist them in finding where they need to be, making groups aware of any cancellations of events, or informing them of fire or tornado drill procedures. In general, I must be aware of all events that happen in the building so that I can assist groups to the best of my ability.

Position

Job title: Social Media Director
Employer: Black Dog Pub
Date of employment: October 2017 – present
Summary of role:

I manage a restaurant and bar’s social media. I schedule posts on Facebook to increase engagement with the restaurant, letting guests know about beer events and different food specials. I respond to reviews on Google, as well, acting as the “face” of the restaurant by responding to reviews and concerns guests have in a timely manner.

Position

Job title: Tutor
Employer: Learning Plus
Date of employment: November 2018 – Present
Summary of role:

I tutor several students from Korea who are in middle school and high school. I work on them with practical English speaking and reading skills, in addition to practice for literature class and the SAT.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I want to teach overseas because my experiences abroad have already taught me much about how different people live their lives, and this is something I am more and more interested in. I like helping to support students from other countries’ needs and interacting with them, hoping to show to me and them that although we are from different places, we can learn many things from one another. I love the idea that because I don’t speak these students’ native language, they can help teach me language skills just like I would be teaching them language skills.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I am a suitable candidate for teaching overseas because I now have over 4 years of classes taken to prepare to be a teacher. I am currently a private tutor and a student teacher at a middle school and know numerous different teaching and behavioural management methods. I already work teaching students from different countries, and I feel like I am able to adapt to and respect their own cultural needs without projecting my own expectations onto them as someone from the United States.
