Job title: Barman
Employer: The Famous Royal Oak
Date of employment: October 2018 – Present
Summary of role:
I joined the Royal Oak’s team in October 2018 with the intention of combining it with my day job so that I could save more money to help me set up my life teaching abroad. I have worked as a barman at many different establishments during my working life and it was easy to adapt to this new work environment. I have been left in charge of the pub on my own on many occasions and have become a trusted member of staff.
Job title: Volunteer/Online Seller
Employer: Oxfam Bookshop
Date of employment: October 2018 – Present
Summary of role:
I decided to volunteer my time at Oxfam Books as I wanted to save all of my income and could no longer donate to charity as regularly. In the short time I have been at Oxfam I have set up parts of their online store and made sales of over £900 online.
Job title: Barista
Employer: Owen’s Cafe
Date of employment: June 2015 – Present
Summary of role:
I have been a member of staff at Owen’s for over 3 years now. During that time I have worked both part time, during my studies at university, and full time when I returned to London permanently. Over the years I have enjoyed building good rapports with regular customers and I have been entrusted with many responsibilities at the cafe given my seniority.
Why do you want to teach overseas?:
I want to teach overseas for a number of reasons. The first and foremost being that I want to explore other parts of the world. I have always been interested in other cultures and would like to immerse myself somewhere completely new and different. Furthermore I would like to be more independent, I live in London which is an expensive city and it is hard to afford your own space here.
I also really like working with children as I find it easy to connect with them and enjoy helping them to learn new things.
Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:
I am a suitable candidate because not only do I have a strong academic background but I am also a very personable person who finds it easy to get along with people of all ages. I have a very strong work ethic, I currently work 7 days a week, which is helping me to save up for my journey abroad. When it comes to learning new things I pick them up very quickly and have a fine eye for detail.
As for living in another country I like to fully embrace other cultures and customs and like being put outside of my comfort zone.
