Why do you want to teach overseas?:

Education has always been important to me as I believe it opens up many doors of opportunities, especially for children. I would like to teach English as a foreign language in Korea because English is the most spoken language in the world, and I would like to assist children in learning to speak English to allow them to communicate and interact on a global platform. I believe that this will, in the future, improve relations between people and countries, and will also open up more opportunities for children in Korea. I believe that a big part of socialization starts at the foundation phases of one’s life, and a large part of this socialization takes place in educational institutions. Schooling years are the years that shape young minds, and are often the years where children develop their ideas about the world and about different people. I believe that this is what makes education very important. My desire to teach English as a foreign language stems from my desire to mold children’s minds positively in a way that will equip them with communication skills that could open up more opportunities for them.

I would like to teach in South Korea specifically because I believe that South Korea values teachers and the services that teachers have to offer. South Korea provides comfortable housing and assistance to teachers which allow teachers to reach their full potential as educators. I would like to learn about Korean culture and traditions, and also would like to learn the Korean language, and immersing myself in Korean culture will assist me in achieving this goal.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I believe that I will be a good candidate because I can bring a fun and exciting approach to teaching. I am good with children and I find it easy to interact with and understand them. I am also a very patient person and making a positive impact on the children’s lives is important to me.

In the future I see myself working in an International Relations role, as an International Relations officer within government. Teaching English in Korea will help achieve this goal as I will gain experience working abroad, and prove that I have the ability to adapt to different environments and can develop and maintain relations with individuals internationally.

Additional information:

My BA major could add value to a school as I could teach from a more global perspective. I could teach learners about the world and different countries which will help them get a better understanding on how English fits in other countries. My degree consisted of a lot of verbal and visual assignments, and this has sharpened my communication and interaction skills, which I believe are good skills to have as a teacher. My BA major is based mainly around history, and teaching English through history could be interesting to the learners. My TEFL/TESOL qualification would add value to a school as I will have practical in-class experience teaching.
