Work Experience

Position

Job title: Customer Assistant
Employer: River Island
Date of employment: Nov 2018 – Jan 2019
Summary of role:

As a customer service assistant, my duties largely revolved around stock replenishment, cashier work and providing personal assistance for customers with issues or queries. I greatly enjoyed this experience of customer service in the busy atmosphere of the shop, and the way in which each customer would really appreciate your efforts in helping them. Working effectively as a team member was also an integral aspect of the role, and I really enjoyed the opportunity to become a part of a family of staff, learning from others and helping them too.

Position

Job title: Customer Assistant
Employer: Tesco
Date of employment: 2016
Summary of role:

I was employed in one of the largest and busiest stores in Glasgow, working on checkouts, assisting customers and stacking shelves. The experience has given me greater confidence in speaking and in public relations, as well as teaching me importance of working as a team player, acting on my own initiative and dealing with challenges.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

Having spent so long in education in the one location, I would like a change of scenery, whilst expanding my horizons, interacting with new people and learning about a different culture, in terms of teaching and from the standpoint of personal growth.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I am able to communicate effectively, delivering relevant information concisely and ensuring a more logical and digestible learning experience. I am adaptable, allowing me to offer my full attention to the students’ individual needs without becoming flustered or disorganised. I am able to engage with students in a patient and empathetic manner, ensuring they have an approachable authority figure to turn to with their concerns. I am passionate about learning, having studied with many inspiring teachers, I understand the benefit of having a teacher who cares deeply about their work. I am organised, and devote time to pre-planning my work. This allows for more time devoted to hands-on teaching, as well as for space to teach creatively. As a person and as a teacher I am mindful of the fact that I will be interacting with students from a diverse age range and range of cultural backgrounds. My ability to be empathetic and understanding, showing respect towards people regardless of their gender, race, sexuality or disability is one of my greatest strengths, as it makes me approachable and gives people confidence in my openness and ability to relate to students. This will help me to be in tune with students’ hopes and fears, helping them towards a more holistic learning experience.
