Work Experience

Position

Job title: Waitress
Employer: Franco’s Restaurant Enniskillen
Date of employment: November 2015-summer 2018
Summary of role:

Worked as a waitress in a busy local restaurant, a job I juggled with school work and later during university vacations. Required me to be engaged, alert and personable both with customers and colleagues throughout busy shifts. I was given responsibility in training new staff throughout my time there.

Position

Job title: Kitchen staff
Employer: Mc Aleer’s Spar, Irvinestown
Date of employment: Summer 2012-November 2015
Summary of role:

This was a job I first started at the age of 13 – I have both sought out and been given responsibility in a work environment from a young age. I worked in the kitchen of a shop deli, serving customers and working with people from a variety of backgrounds and of different ages.

Position

Job title: Various access roles
Employer: St Hugh’s College
Date of employment: At different points from December 2016 onwards
Summary of role:

I have worked on an ad hoc basis for my Oxford college – helping during the interview process and working at open days.
This required me to work with young people – calming them down before interviews, and showing them around the college on open days.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I am taking a year out next year, and I want to push myself outside of my comfort zone and experience something new, something that I will find rewarding and that will find me rewarding. I want to travel outside Europe, and East Asia has always held an appeal to me. However, I don’t want to simply be a tourist, and feel that teaching will allow me to integrate to a degree with a community, and see a culture in one of its most important forms – its education system. I ultimately want to teach at a university level, and feel experience teaching overseas at a younger level will be beneficial.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I am a dynamic person, eager to push myself and quick to adapt to new and challenging situations. I was the only student from my county to successfully secure an Oxbridge place in 2016. I am intelligent and personable, social and make friends easily.
