Work Experience

Position

Job title: Principal Systems Engineer
Employer: MBDA
Date of employment: 2011-present
Summary of role:

I am head of a team of around 15 engineers who work on aeronautical system performance assessments. In this leadership role I am responsible for not only the delivery of work, but the development of my team. I manage multiple projects with challenging deadlines, so my motivational and time management are constantly tested.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I want to see the world, but I want to see it when I am immersed in the country and culture. I believe the best way to understand a place is to experience daily life there and have meaningful interactions with other people.

When we (my wife and I) decided to go traveling, we knew we didn’t want to go as just tourists. We hope the experience with broaden our minds and help us decide what we want our futures to look like.

The part of my job I enjoy the most is the development of my team. I really enjoy working with people and helping people grow and develop. In my leadership role I am responsible for the training and development of engineers of different ages, and all of whom have different backgrounds.

Before I committed to an engineering career I wanted to teach Physics.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

My classroom teaching experience is currently limited to my kickboxing gym, where I teach a regular class for all ages and experience levels. I do this voluntarily and it’s the high point of my week!

My class really enjoy the lessons, and I take a huge amount of pride in them as I see individuals improve their skills. For me the highest accolade is getting positive feedback from my students and seeing them really wanting to learn.

I believe I am very personable and engaging. I am always passionate about what I do. I have developed very good time management and people management skills and I believe these will help me thrive in an ESL classroom.
