Work Experience

Position

Job title: Head Chef
Employer: Three Sisters Bake
Date of employment: November 2011 to Present
Summary of role:

During my time at Three Sisters Bake I was responsible for several staff training initiatives across the business which required me to provide teaching and training tailored to the needs of different learners.

• Advanced Catering Skills – I created a training manual and provided a training program for experienced chefs which taught the advanced skills required for the management of large catering events. This included monitoring and providing feedback on their work.

• Intermediate Catering – I created a development manual for junior chefs and provided an assessment of their skills and a program of training which aimed to build on the chefs knowledge, confidence and passion.

• Introduction to Catering – I was responsible for training our Kitchen Porters who often had limited English. I provided a training program which taught the basics of food safety and hygiene, with language graded at an appropriate level.

I enjoyed the opportunity to provide work experience for schoolchildren from our local Secondary School. The students were given an induction which covered Kitchen safety and Food hygiene and were introduced to various aspects of cooking. Their enthusiasm and progress during their time in the kitchen was extremely rewarding.

During my time at Three Sisters Bake I have been responsible for implementing and refining several aspects of the kitchen service including;

• A thriving wedding catering service

• Outside catering, afternoon tea, events catering such as the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games

• Assisting in the production of a successful cookbook.

• The opening of a second premises

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

Throughout my career, I have been responsible for the formal teaching and training of chefs at every level from complete beginners to highly experienced members of staff.

I have found my good nature and sense of humour have always helped in making sure work is done to a high standard. I believe in keeping my trainees motivated, passionate and happy to push themselves to achieve their goals. This is an approach that I look forward to taking with my students.

I travelled to South Korea in 2018 and love the culture, the people, and the food.
