Work Experience

Position

Job title: Private Tutor in English, Classics, Languages and Humanities
Employer: Myself
Date of employment: 2012 to Present
Summary of role:

As a private tutor I work independently with people of all ages, but most commonly young students, in an array of different subjects. Most of my work is done in English Language and Literature, but I also teach Classics as well as several languages including Latin and Japanese, alongside humanities like Philosophy. I consider it a pleasure to be able to share my love and knowledge of these wonderful subjects with others.
Tutoring requires me to work with a great diversity of people at many different levels of capability. Some are academically talented while others are dealing with conditions like autism or dyslexia. In every case I treat students with warmth, patience and understanding in order to guide them towards their unique ambitions. I love working with young people and highly value their energy and enthusiasm.
Working independently involves a lot of responsibilities. I have to be able to present myself well, communicate clearly and openly, and develop trusting relationships with all of my students, as well as their families.

Position

Job title: Freelance Voice Over Artist
Employer: Various
Date of employment: January 2020 to Present

I work with local artists and projects, using my voice to narrate, tell stories, recite poetry and entertain. In some cases the work is done in a recording studio, and at other times in a live setting, such as an arts event. It is a creative and challenging role, and often allows me to bring to life the imaginations of others, which is a true pleasure.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I have a deep desire to experience life in Asia, and believe that through teaching overseas I will be able to truly immerse myself in a new and exciting culture. I have always been fascinated by the different cultures of Asia – their art, architecture, music, fashion, philosophy and languages – and I long to experience these things in person. I am especially intrigued by the unique culture of South Korea, blending ancient tradition with new technology and trends. I also wish to meet many new and interesting people from all over the world. I believe that now is the right time in my life to do this. I am ready for challenge and adventure, and to see and do wonderful things that will encourage me to grow as a person.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I have a lot of experience of teaching and tutoring, and thoroughly enjoy the energy and enthusiasm of children and young people. More than this though, I am deeply eager to expand my understanding of the world by setting out from the country I have always known. I believe I have a lot to offer, and feel that I would thrive in a country like South Korea. I am excited to share knowledge of my own culture with others, and to learn all about theirs in turn. I love languages and have taught myself several, including Japanese and Latin, so the challenge of learning Korean for example is one that I especially look forward to. I believe that learning a country’s language is one of the truest ways to the heart of its culture. Beyond language, I am sure that moving to the other side of the world will bring many other unique challenges, but I feel excited by those challenges, and look forward to the rewards that meeting them will bring.

Additional information:

I have a great interest in fashion and I love the unique modern style of South Korea. It’s something I’m really looking forward to experiencing in person. As well as this there is sport, music, food, film and more, and I’m excited to experience all of these things. I think that my natural curiosity and desire to learn will allow me to make the most of living in a foreign country, and to give a lot back in return.
