Work Experience

Position

Job title: Volunteer Classroom assistant
Employer: Monkwearmouth Academy
Date of employment: From 1 January 2019 to 29 April 2019
Summary of role:

I spent several months in a volunteer role at a local school in English Literature and Language classes. I assisted groups of students and helped teachers with classroom preparation, as well as studying how multiple experiences teachers taught and how their methods differ. One of the teachers also asked me to assist a specific student who was troubled with their work as he responded well to me but not the teacher. I did this as I planned to become an English Literature and wanted to get some solid experience and understanding of the role, as well as ensuring the role is right for me. In doing so, I determined that teaching is certainly the ideal role for my skills, even as I now am preparing to teach English as a language.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I have for a long time wanted to pursue a teaching career and became certain it is right for me when I volunteered at a local school. Due to my passion for language I decided that teaching English abroad would be a fitting and rewarding career.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I firmly believe from experience that one of my strongest skills is my ability to take complex concepts and break them down into a level that can be grasped. During my time as a volunteer, I watched as students went from having little understanding of a topic to being able to recite it on their own easily. As well as my own understanding of the topic, my communication skills are one of my strongest assets.
