Work Experience

Position

Job title: SHOP ASSISTANT
Employer: JURASSIC OUTDOOR
Date of employment: July 2016-August 2016
Summary of role:

I worked full time in the local camping shop, running the till and interacting with customers. I was left in charge of the shop on occasions. This job allowed me to learn responsibilities of supervising a shop floor. It was also the first time I could run my own personal. Sales and interpersonal skills were important. I worked hard to learn about the stock so I could advise customers in their purchases.

Position

Job title: KITCHEN ASSISTANT
Employer: COTHILL EDUCATIONAL TRUST
Date of employment: May 2015- October 2017
Summary of role:

My parents ran a scientific field centre, primarily for school trips ranging from studying the biological and geographical factors of the Isle of Purbeck in which it was situated to adventure breaks for the children doing activities such as kayaking, coasteering and learning camp craft skills. I spent a lot of time after getting back from school helping in the kitchen with preparing food and helping with the arrival of deliveries. I also spent time working in the wash up. I learnt many practical skills through this job as well as how to work alongside others.

Position

Job title: GROUNDS ASSISTANT
Employer: COTHILL EDUCATIONAL TRUST
Date of employment: May 2015- October 2017
Summary of role:

As well as working on the extensive grounds of the study centre, I helped to feed and look after the livestock (sheep, pigs, hens). This not only gave me the practical skills of learning how to operate a variety of vehicles including tractors and quadbikes but also taught me the importance of hard work as I often had to go out early in the morning/ late at night to feed the animals or even to help heard up the sheep.

Position

Job title: WAITER
Employer: CRAB APPLE CATERING
Date of employment: July 2018- August 2018
Summary of role:

During the summer break I worked for Crab Apple Catering. My time was fairly evenly split between serving drinks and food and setting up/ clearing away company equipment. I learnt some basic waitering formalities as well as gaining the experience of what it is like to be constantly on show to clients whilst working. I learnt how to do my job whilst keeping a smart and friendly appearance.

Position

Job title: RIDER
Employer: DELIVEROO
Date of employment: September 2018- Present
Summary of role:

Throughout university I have worked for Deliveroo on my bicycle. I chose the job because of its flexible hours and took it as an opportunity to improve my fitness. I have enjoyed the physical aspect of the job. The job has required me to be very self-motivated and honest as I could essentially work as much or as little as I wanted and there is no one directly supervising me. The job has definitely allowed me to develop my self-motivation and abilities to think independently and solve any problems that may have come up during the delivery process.

Position

Job title: GENERAL ASSITANT
Employer: CRANLEIGH SCHOOL
Date of employment: May 2019- September 2019
Summary of role:

Between my first and second years of study at university I worked as an assistant gardener working across three school sites- Cranleigh School, Cranleigh Preparatory School and Glebelands School. As well as learning many practical skills including how to operate a variety of gardening equipment, I also learnt what it is like to work a five-day week across a long period of time. I also learnt how to work directly with a small team of people from a variety of backgrounds. I made the most of my time working alongside more experienced workers than me by maintaining a positive and inquisitive attitude.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I love to meet new people from a wide variety of backgrounds and relish opportunities to experience other cultures outside that of my own. I have thoroughly enjoyed traveling in the past, having been on touristy trips with family and friends and would love to experience a new place for an extended period of time so that I can immerse myself in a different way of life whilst helping other people through my teaching and making connections with people I would otherwise not come across. I have been surrounded by the world of teaching all my life as my father has been the headteacher at various different prep schools around the south of England where we have lived- I would love to see how the world of education is different across the world so that I can gain perspective on my own experiences.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I thoroughly enjoy working with younger kids having volunteered at schools both in the UK, where I taught young children basic reading skills, and overseas as I previously mentioned- teaching children basic English. I am very familiar with how schools here in the UK work having grown up in them inside and outside of term time so I feel as though I would not struggle to adapt to working in a school abroad. I generally get on well with younger children as I enjoy spending time entertaining and helping them but I am also good at gaining their attention and obedience when necessary having had two younger cousins who I frequently babysit.
