Work Experience

Position

Job title: Learning Support Assistant
Employer: Academics Ltd
Date of employment: September 2020 – Present
Summary of role:

I am currently a 1-1 teaching assistant in a Nursery (children aged 3-4). I work closely with a child who has special educational needs, it is my job to assist her getting around the classroom as well as doing activities with her for her development and motor-skills. When she is absent from school I fulfil the role of general teaching assistant.

Position

Job title: Volunteer Tutor
Employer: Libraries Plus
Date of employment: October 2017 – June 2019
Summary of role:

I would help children aged between 4 – 16 with their homework and other extracurricular activities after school in my local library. This included creative writing, spelling, grammar, numeracy and reading.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I love to experience different cultures and people who are different to me. I want to broaden my horizons from my small hometown and experience life in a new place. I think it’s important to do that because it shows you different perspectives and helps a person understand others.
I grew up in a very multicultural environment in school and I’ve always found other people’s customs interesting and fun to learn about.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I’ve wanted to teach since I was young. I enjoy the nuances of language and I have found I have a natural ability to explain and break down concepts in a way that helps others understand. I’ve also wanted to travel and live abroad since I was very young, therefore teaching abroad was an obvious next step. I have a thirst for new experiences and I’m very tolerant and already fairly knowledgeable of other cultures already, so adjusting to a new culture would not be difficult for me. I’m already very familiar with South Korean culture in particular.
