Work Experience

Position

Job title: Server
Employer: Kazu Japanese Restaurant
Date of employment: February 2021-Present
Summary of role:

I am a server in a busy Japanese restaurant. My job requires me to be active and on my feet all day, and to always come to work with a positive attitude. I interact with customers of all kinds, and I have learned the importance of being patient and kind to people. Outside of customer interaction, my job also requires me to be able to multitask and think on my feet.

Position

Job title: Editorial Assistant
Employer: Jewish Federation of Northeast Florida
Date of employment: June 2019-November 2019
Summary of role:

I was an assistant to the editor in chief, working to edit, write and proofread published content; most notably the organizations newspaper. I also had to coordinate with other branches of the organization to make sure everyone could reach an agreement about content for publication. I spent much of my time in this position writing and honeing my English skills, as well as organizing content.

Position

Job title: Marketing Intern
Employer: River Garden Senior Services
Date of employment: June 2019-December 2019
Summary of role:

As a marketing intern, I mostly edited things that the director of marketing wrote for the company’s published content (magazines, newsletters, etc.). Our biggest and most notable project, was the creation of a book, written and edited by me, where I interviewed some of our facility’s residents and compiled their stories for preservation. Interacting with a lot of different people was very important, and I gained valuable face-to-face skills while working this position.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I have been wanting to teach overseas since I graduated from University. For the first few years, I focused on honing my English skills, while also saving up enough money to live overseas. Then, I received my TEFL certification. I have always enjoyed working with children- young children in particular- and I find teaching and being a mentor to be a very fulfilling experience. South Korea is just one of many countries I am planning on teaching in, and I believe it would be a very suitable place to being my growth as an educator.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I have studied overseas while attending University (in Japan), and I have experienced first-hand how different other countries’ cultures can be from my own. However, I had come to enjoy the immersion, and I look forward to being able to learn more about new people and their languages. South Korea is a country rich in both aspects, and I know that teaching English there would be a priceless exchange of culture.
