Work Experience

Position

Job title: Associate Plant Breeding Scientist
Employer: GW Pharmaceuticals
Date of employment: August 2019 – July 2021
Summary of role:

Supporting the plant breeding team in developing new varieties of Cannabis sativa using molecular biological techniques. I was very well acquainted with tutoring team members in this position, and had a lot of experience breaking down difficult concepts into simpler terms to communicate scientific findings to a wider audience.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I graduated from The University of Manchester just over two years ago, and until very recently I have been working as a plant breeding scientist at a pharmaceutical company. Whilst I enjoyed my time there, I have decided that I now want to pursue something more fulfilling where I can help others to learn, and ultimately make a more tangible positive impact on the world.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I have a very enthusiastic approach towards work, and am confident that my organisational skills will enable me to plan lessons effectively. Problem solving and decision making are my key strengths, and I thrive under pressurised conditions where I can take the initiative to think of creative solutions. I believe that my friendly personality and passion for helping others combined with the problem solving skills I have gained during my scientific career would make me a great fit for this profession.

Additional information:

I would like to teach at a private school with a small class size. I have no preference with regard to the age groups I will be teaching, but would prefer a position with less than 30 teaching hours. I already have all of the necessary documents prepared and apostilled for the E-2 visa apart from the criminal background check, which I have just applied for and plan to get apostilled as soon as it arrives.
