It was fabulous to see so many attending with such a positive vibe”.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

First and foremost, I want to make a positive impact on students, and help them to broaden their horizons, while simultaneously broadening my own.

I believe learning a new language can create countless opportunities and is extremely rewarding. In fact, through my own foreign language learning activities I have seen first hand how enriching the experience can be. Being able to share those opportunities with as many people as possible would be very heartening.

In terms of the impact I’d like to have on students, I believe that having a teacher from a completely different background to them would give students the chance to develop an interest in other cultures, develop a global mindset, and offer them the opportunity to experience a new culture too.

I am ready for a change in career, and keen to see more of the world, make new friends, share my passions and interests with others, and just generally have a positive influence on as many people as possible.

Additionally, from a personal development point of view, I am very keen to learn a new language and discover a country and culture which is totally different to the one I am used to.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

My university degree and several years of work experience both demonstrate my ability to communicate clearly, in both spoken and written forms. In fact, my passion for sharing my love of theatre with others is what led me to my current job in arts marketing, where the ability to communicate with a range of audiences and persuade them to try new things is paramount to my success.

The skills I have acquired while working in arts marketing are therefore massively applicable to the those required of a teacher teaching English overseas, wherein I would be constantly trying to engage students in the language learning process, and working to uncover the most effective learning method for each student.

My personality also makes me a great candidate. I am friendly and approachable, and always keen to share thoughts, ideas, and knowledge. In my current job I frequently have to find creative ways to solve problems, and I believe that teaching a new skill (or language) using a creative and innovative method would be something I could easily demonstrate.

Additionally, I am very interested in travelling, experiencing other cultures, and learning new languages. I make sure to practice language learning skills every day (I’ve been teaching myself German via Duolingo, and have just started the Korean Duolingo course too), and I love to watch and listen to films, TV shows and music in other languages, in order to expand my worldview.

Additional information:

I have some experience in working with, mentoring, and teaching young people. Some examples of previous work are:
– Setting up and running a Musical Theatre Society in College, tutoring students in younger years in singing, dance and acting
– Volunteered as a Brownie Young Leader (Girlguiding UK) for several years, and represented Girlguiding UK abroad in Mexico and Iceland on volunteer trips
– Work experience at a local (nationally renowned) theatre company, teaching acting workshops to children from nursery age to present
