Why do you want to teach overseas?:
I became interesting in pursuing teaching as a career after enjoying my experience working in a High School environment during which I was able to try out a teaching role. Additionally, I loved living in Seoul when I studied abroad and knew I wanted to move back for work as there’s so much more I want experience and to learn about the culture. Therefore, the prospect of teaching in South Korea seemed like the perfect fit to me since finishing my degree!
Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:
My experience of living in Seoul and creating relationships with many non-native English speakers, whether Korean or simply foreigners living in Korea, has given me a good understanding of how to communicate well with people who aren’t fluent in the English language. For example, I learnt how best to speak clearly, adopt an easily understandable accent, and developed an intuition for when to adjust the difficulty of my language to the level of the person I’m speaking with. Furthermore, having experienced being the student in Korean language lessons where my teachers speak solely in the target language, I have gained insight into both the difficulties and benefits of this style of learning. I believe I could apply this knowledge when switching to the role of teacher and help my students feel comfortable whilst still making sure to challenge them.
