Education comments:

I have some volunteer experience as well as a TEFL certification. I am well versed in the PPP method, but would be open to using any method or style the school deems best. I love working with both adults and children as I find that every age brings its own joys and struggles. My linguistic degree is helpful for me since I am able to explain in simple terms where students are having complications, if it be with pronunciation, grammar or comprehension. Along with my TEFL certification I am able to use this information to create activities to help my students not only improve, but to recognize why they are making their mistakes.

Work Experience

Position

Job title: LIT (leader in Training)
Employer: Camp Michitanki
Date of employment: Jun 2015 and 2016
Summary of role:

Michitanki is a camp designed for children with organ transplants or children who are expecting a transplant. LIT volunteers at camp Michitanki worked as assistants to councilors in order to keep camp children happy and organized. I primarily focused on helping children with disabilities or daily activities such as crafts or sports. The campers and LITs experienced a one week long camp experience during summer.

Position

Job title: ESL Pronunciation Assistant Volunteer
Employer: Troy community Center
Date of employment: September 2018 – May 2019
Summary of role:

I worked with adult English students at mid intermediate to advanced level of speaking to improve their English ability. One other volunteer and I were able to help students with their phonetic knowledge and pronunciation of English. I prepared classroom materials and handouts for weekly meetings and taught my own section of students. Lastly, I created two tests to assess future focus of grammar and pronunciation needs and used this information to decide what students should be taught.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

I want to experience new people and cultures different from my own. I love languages and want to help students from all over the world gain opportunities by learning English while retaining their native tongue. I would love the opportunity to learn about how others live and how cultural differences change our approach to life.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I have been working toward earning a teaching job for years. I am looking to make teaching a central focus in my life rather than just a means to explore a new country or a quick vacation after graduation. I am looking to teach for a long time and therefore will be working towards continuously improving myself as well as learning new ways to help students.
