Work Experience

Position

Job title: Receptionist
Employer: Unite Students
Date of employment: September 2019 – present
Summary of role:

Through my job I have the opportunity to work closely with students, helping them to settle into their ‘home away from home’, many of whom have travelled from all corners of the world. I have been able to meet people of all different cultures whilst learning skills which will benefit me not only in the workplace but in everyday life.

Position

Job title: Student Mentor
Employer: Nottingham Trent University
Date of employment: October 2018 – April 2019
Summary of role:

During the 3rd year of my BSc I worked at NTU as a student mentor. This entailed helping first year students get around on freshers week, helping the student settle into university life and transitioning from being college students to university students. The main role of the job was helping out in the classroom as teaching support twice a week throughout the year and one to one tutoring sessions. This allowed me to form good relationships with the students and to experience being at the front of the classroom which I thoroughly enjoyed.

Position

Job title: Waitress
Employer: Sushimania
Date of employment: September 2018 – April 2019
Summary of role:

Alongside studying for my BSc and student mentoring I worked as a waitress at Sushimania in the Nottingham City Centre as an evening job. This job entailed engaging with customers at the front of house, serving food, making hot and cold drinks, cleaning the bar coffee machines and restaurant floor and having an all round cheery and welcoming attitude.

Supporting Information:

Why do you want to teach overseas?:

Teaching overseas has always been an ambition of mine since I was young. I’ve always been fascinated by language and culture and I am constantly trying to broaden my horizons in both of these aspects. I believe teaching overseas would be the perfect opportunity for me to explore those horizons completely by surrounding myself in a whole new world to what I am used to here.

I’m always keen to seek out new challenges and push myself more and more, and this would be the biggest adventure yet.

It has always been a dream to travel to East Asia, Korea especially, and to be able to teach there would really be so rewarding.

Why are you a suitable candidate for teaching overseas?:

I pride myself on my patience and open mindedness, I am naturally empathetic and nurturing having grown up as one of the eldest in my large family. I believe I would be a great teacher to students of all ages. I love young children and would love to bring something special to their lives by helping them learn a new language, and I also believe after years of studying and working I am responsible and able enough to teach even the oldest age range of students. I have proven this in my work as a student mentor at Nottingham Trent University which I enjoyed throughly and also working with many students of all ages and cultures at Unite. Both roles have only cemented the goal to teach overseas more for me.
